| Farm Contaminants (Webinar length: 1h 21m) Overview: Food Safety compliance requires farms to become food safety certified but does not require adequate water or produce testing for contaminants harmful to humans. Clean water used to water crops can become contaminated through farm irrigation systems that are subject to biofilm contamination. Improper use of pesticides, herbicides and fungicides impact not only the consuming public, but the surrounding environment as well. In this webinar: Produce buyers will learn concepts critical to assuring that proper farm water and produce testing are conducted in a manner designed to provide preventive food safety controls. Asking the right questions and reviewing the right farm supplied data are critical to protecting consumers at the retail and restaurant levels regardless of food safety certification documents. Produce suppliers will learn when and where to sample water and food produce in order to protect their customers and consumers. Areas covered in this webinar: Protecting yourself and your company from farm level contaminants The danger of crop watering system biofilms Farm level total coliform, fecal coliform and E. coli on crops and in watering systems Fungicide, insecticide and herbicide produce residues in water and on produce Test sampling plans and procedures Water and produce testing Costs of testing and analysis Managing farm freedom from biological and chemical contamination Who will benefit from this webinar: Retail and restaurant food buyers Chefs Produce grower-shippers and distributors Farmers Food quality and food safety personnel AFDO Officials and IFT members FDA food safety specialists Food safety systems consultants Food safety compliance personnel Food safety audit personnel and certification bodies Food quality and operations management Distribution center personnel Presenter--Dr. John Ryan Dr/ John Ryan Dr. Ryan is the Administrator for the Hawaii State Department of Agriculture's Quality Assurance Division and a co-chair of the newly formed FDA/CDC food protection information technology team.
