Managing Pet Food Safety Issues
(Webinar length:  1hr  13min)

Overview:

This webinar on food safety issues with pet food will address the practical issues involved in
designing and implementing effective plans to minimize the risks associated with the
manufacture of pet food. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has issued a proposed rule
entitled “Preventive Controls for Animal Food” as part of the Food Safety Modernization Act,
and this rule, in its’ final form, will directly impact pet food manufacturers. Topics covered in
this webinar will include recent food safety issues with pet food, fundamental aspects of
controlling food safety issues during production, and how the proposed FSMA rule on
preventative controls may impact pet food manufacturers. A primary focus will be on
interpretation of results, based on the limitations of experimental design and methods.

This session is designed for pet food manufacturers who are implementing food safety
programs. The session will aid not only those directly involved in quality assurance, but also
those who are required to make informed decisions based on the results of these programs.
The session will cover the justification for implementation of food safety programs, as well as
practical ideas for designing or improving these programs. It will also discuss the limitations
of these programs, so that the results can be properly interpreted. The goal of this session is
to aid pet food manufacturers in the design, implementation and maintenance of food safety
control programs, as well as facilitating the understanding of the results.

Areas Covered:

Current and previous recall history of pet foods
Current Good Manufacturing Practices – FSMA Preventative Controls proposed rule
FDA Proposed Rules for product testing, environmental monitoring and supplier controls
Using the Results of Monitoring Programs
Program Maintenance

Who Will Benefit:

Pet food processors and manufacturers
Quality assurance personnel
Directors/VPs of operations and quality in food companies
