| Norovirus Contamination & Control (Webinar length: 1 hr 14 min) Overview: According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, norovirus (“NoV”) is the leading cause of acute gastrointestinal disease and the leading cause of foodborne illness outbreaks in the US today. NoV is a particularly difficult virus to control as the transmission pathways includes airborne routes, fomites, person to person, food and water. Its non-enveloped morphology allows it to remain active when other less refractory bacteria and virus would be inactivated. Typical sanitizing methods are ineffective and improper cleaning can spread the virus. NoV may persist for weeks in the environment and can be spread easily. Identification and the control of NoV must begin very early in the outbreak in order to prevent the further spread and amplification of the virus. The best defense against this agent is a sound program for dealing with contamination if it should occur, and a system for rapidly identifying and investigating outbreaks. What will be covered in this webinar: The epidemiology of norovirus A review and analysis of NoV outbreaks Control of NoV in institutions Control of Nov in food Mitigation of environmental contamination Who should attend: QA and QC Managers Food Scientists and Technologists Food Safety Personnel Neonatal-Prenatal health care workers Microbiologists Health practitioners Presenter; Roy Costa Roy E.
