Auditing Quality & Risk Management Systems 101
(Webinar Length:  1 hr  29 min)

Overview:

Auditing of the Quality and Risk Management Systems is extremely important to ensure
compliance and consistency. This Internal Auditing course reveals the workings of a powerful
management tool.  The ideas shared are drawn from years of international experience and
will ensure your program drives continuous improvement, requiring food safety programs be
followed consistently.  The task is difficult because programs and procedures that are not
followed precisely can put the consumer, your customers and your business at risk.

It is critically important that your Internal Audit is tougher than any third-party audit.  Every
deficiency that a third-party auditor finds, you should already have found and be implementing
corrective action.  Internal Auditing is most importantly about effectively managing risks to the
consumer and your company, rather than just satisfying certification requirements.

What you will learn:

The importance of choosing a multi-disciplinary team and the value of frequent, scheduled
audits
The significance of thoroughly auditing the 3 P’s: Procedures, Practices, and Paperwork
The importance of ensuring all staff faithfully follow Work Instructions and SOP’s
The difficult task of differentiating between Critical, Major and Minor non-conformances, with
the help of practical examples
How to solve problems using Root Cause Analyisis
How to get the real, underlying issues by asking probing, but not intimidating questions

Presenter--Irwin Pronk:

Irwin Pronk has worked with over 300 companies to implement food safety and quality
assurance programs over the past 15 years. He has worked on all sections of the supply

programs (SQF, ISO22000) and is an ISO22000 Lead Assessor. Irwin was a contributor to
the Quality Auditor’s HACCP Handbook (ASQ). When it comes to management systems, he
is a firm believer in the integration of risk management systems as well as using a behaviour-
based approach. He was the winner of the OFPA’s Sanitarian of the Year award in 2005.
Prior to consulting he worked with both Pillsbury Canada and Maple Leaf.
